Joy Goswami and Poetry – An Evening
Sunday April 26 2009, Crossword Bangalore: It has been a life cherished moment for me when I meet Joy Goswami an eminent poet, author and man with voice. Joy rules the post Shakti Chattopadhyay era of Bengali poem. His way of telling story is rare in today’s poem. Most of his work tells story not just a thought.
In the lazy afternoon I was reading newspaper and saw that Joy Goswami will be reading his poetry live at Bangalore Crossword. Far from Kolkata it is rare opportunity for any poetry lover. Who wants to miss it when yon can afford it.
When I reached Crossword Bangalore after changing two busses with a additional walk in the hot summer afternoon after sacrificing my sleep. It was pleasure to be there in the Bengali corner at Crossword. Event was ready to be kicked off. There is one Cafe Coffee Day in Crossword and few of the organizers were rushing there. A glimpse through the glass partition revealed the famous look of Joy. Without wasting time I went there and only few were sitting with him. I requested one of them to take a snap of me with him which I can keep throughout my life to share with others. A moment, a moment when you get so close to someone who have been in your reading for quite a long time. “Benimadhab”, “Jara Bristite Bhijechilo” are the legends on its own, people will remember Joy Gowsami for these timeless creations.
I requested him to sign one for me at his “Kobita Songroho Vol 2” and at my notebook. In addition to that he also corrected one word at “Meghbalikar Janye Rupkotha” at page 54 (“Rupokar” to “Rupkotha”) and at “Para-Porshi” p. 326 (“Kaaj” to “Baaj”). I feel very lucky though.
